PHP Search with Dropdown PDO OOP
January 26, 2023
You can use a dropdown menu to allow users to select specific fields to search by, and then use the value selected in the dropdown to modify the SQL query.
In this example, the form contains a text input for the search term, a dropdown menu with options to search by title, content, or author, and a submit button.
In this example, the function accepts 2 parameters, the search term and the search field, the function uses the value of $searchField to modify the SQL query, so it will search for the selected field.
It's important to validate the inputs and sanitize them if needed before passing them to the query, because if the user changes the value of the dropdown, the query could be vulnerable to SQL injection.
You can also add extra functionality like sorting, filtering and pagination to make it more versatile and user-friendly.
